Summary

After doing this project the group has learnt many things about working in a team to produce an end product. It is extremely difficult to be consistent throughout when many people are working on one project at once.
We came across many problems during the project. One of the main problems we came across was the time limit we had throughout. This made us rush on many of the scenes which lead to more problems. We also had a rough version of the advert to show during the presentation which didn't look good. However, we did learn many things to could improve for the end product. Another main problem we had was making the full video in Premiere Pro. We decided to make our own individual movies in premiere pro and then put them together as a group. The settings at the beginning of the program when it opens were all set to different settings, and we could not understand why. This meant that all our movies were set to different ratios and aspects which made the video look very blurry and disjointed. Not only this, the video also looked very blurry because we had rendered the videos twice in premiere pro. We came across this problem by putting all of our videos into one premiere pro file and rendering it once. This also meant that all our videos were in the same resolution. There was also many problems with frames Jolting. This was solved by speeding up the video.
This project will come in very useful in the future when using premiere pro and 3Ds Max because we will have learnt from problems we came across and we also learnt many new skills from this. The also learnt to work very effectively as a group and listen to each others ideas and suggest effective ideas for the group.

Audio and Music

After the presentation it was advised that we use audio or music in the advert. This was discussed between the group several times as there was many options for ways we could show sounds. Because of the different kinds of scenes we all have it was mentioned that it would be easier is everyone had their own music for showing there is something for everyone in Essex. We decided on all having an ambient sound in the background along with different pieces of music with no vocals.

Shopping - This used "Walk on By" by someone
Scenery - This used an instrumental version of "Better when we're together" by jack Johnson to give a relaxing feel.
Entertainment - This used an instrumental version of "I bet that you look good on the dance floor" by the Arctic monkeys, which showed excitement and an exciting and entertaining side of Essex.
Eating out - This used "A Girl from Ipanema" which is like mood music for the restaurants.

New Introductions

After we did the presentation we knew we could make many improvements to the advert. One of the improvements we could make was the introductions to each scene. New introductions were created based on the theme of Essex. We thought the best way to show off Essex is to show its views and scenery.

The new introductions were all made so that there was a running theme. The text was the made into the same colour as the Visit Essex logo and the text sat on a plane of grass which represented a field. The animation was that it zoomed into the writing to go along with our original idea of going into darkness for the next scene.

Improvements

We decided to make improvements to our group project by taking into account the criticism we received from the feedback. The many options for improvements were discussed based on the time we have available to us to make these changes..

The improvements we made are:

  • We have added sound and music to the final advert
  • We have mentioned the locations of our scenes that we have designed
  • The website name along with "Visit Essex" has been added at the end of the advert
  • We have shorted the original advert and cut it down to atleast 50%
  • We have speed up the scenes that was too slow
  • There are new rendered scenes at a better quality
  • Certain scenes have been modified to add more detail into the advert.
  • Make new renders of scene that were "Jolting".
  • Added more animation to some of the scenes to make it look more appealing.
  • Created new intoruction scenes for each of the sections.

Presentation

The presentation could have gone a lot better. The group was not prepared for the presentation as we had not finished the work completly and put the scenes together quickly for the purpose of the presentation. By doing this we knew lots of things we could already improve on. However, the presentation gave us a very good idea of new ways we could improve the advert.

After the presentation we were given feedback on our video. We decided the changes that needed to take place are as follows:
  • Add audio to each clip
  • Shorten sequences (some are too long and repetitive)
  • Add website so the audience know where to gather further information
  • Speed up some clips

Group Meeting: Progress

As a group we met to discuss everyones progress. We decided that we would go away and work on our indivdual pieces and meet later to see what stages we are at. We each showed our work to the group members and said what we liked, disliked and what could be improved. This proved a succesful way of helping each other as we was able to all come up with different ideas.

Our Final Idea

As a group we have decided what our final idea will be.
We have decided to take the word 'Essex' and focus on each letter. Each letter will stand for a different word:

E-Entertainment
S-Shopping
S-Scenery
E-Eating Out
X-eXciting

The word Essex will be made bold and we will zoom into each letter. A two minute animation will then be shown of the chosen category. As a group we have brainstormed ideas:

Entertainment: Clubs, Bars, Cinema, Ice Skating, Theme Parks, Paintball, Radio, V Fest.

Shopping: Lakeside, Freeport

Scenery: Museums, Country Parks, Castle, Southend Pier

Eating out: Restaurants, Brasseries

We have decided that each memeber of the group will focus on their own category.
  • Entertainment-Jemma
  • Shopping- Jenny
  • Scenery- Rachel
  • Eating out- Mae
